India Gate, a famous location

Last stop for the day is India Gate, a huge monument to honor the Indian soldiers killed in World War 1. Our driver is quite reluctant to take us here, he says that he can drive by but in the end he stops at the parking lot and it is time to go through the underpass to the Gate. It is a very popular place both for sightseeing and scamming, unfortunately. Most scams are to take your photo, become your guide, give you a flower or magnet and then take an exorbitant amount of money. And they are quite aggressive so it is not a fun place to linger, really.

We keep ourselves on the move to avoid the scammers taking photos on the fly until we get behind the gate where it is more peaceful and we can explore around easily.

We then return slowly towards the car exploring along the way and then it is time to return to the hotel for an evening of birdwatching.

At the hotel we decide to have an evening of extravaganza and instead of dinner we order a few sweets from the downtown bakery. They are quite welcome and we eat them while watching the birds from the balcony on our last day in Delhi.

And not only birds like rose-ringed parakeets but to our surprise also macaques. They climbed on the next building and are exploring it but luckily they don’t find a way to our balcony.

Other birds we see are the common but to us still special hornbills and barbets, they are quite beautiful.

We even see our first Indian White-Eye between the flocks of Rock Doves, it is a beautiful evening and happy we go to sleep as tomorrow it is time to leave Delhi and drive towards Sariska, our next destination.
