It is about an hour drive from Augusta Raurica to Zug passing near Zurich. There are some slowdowns as we go around Zurich but nothing to bad and soon we are on surface streets passing through Zug and trying to find where our friends are staying. With the help of the GPS and some nice navigation directions we make it and after leaving our luggage it is time to go exploring. But first we stop at a supermarket to buy provisions and then it is time to go up into the mountains.
The roads are quite narrow with some nice views that we cannot really enjoy as we drive to navigate the tight curves on unfamiliar roads with fast cars coming the other way. This is made more nerve wracking as we are relaying on verbal directions which sometimes come with a lag making as turn on a dime left or right.
We are happy when we arrive at the restaurant chosen by our friends. It is high in the mountains and quite secluded, we are surprised that it can stay in business really but there might be more traffic than we assume past it. Either way the menu is quite interesting and it takes a bit until we choose two dishes to test.
While waiting for the food we enjoy the nice views from the terrace. This includes a few cows that come bells jingling next to the terrace. Cute.
The food is quite hearthy and good, except some unexpected onions in one of them. We chose a dish that specifically didn’t include onions…and it still did.
On the return trip we stop for a short hike to a belvedere point on the Zug mountain. We are also trying to avoid the rain that is brewing, in fact the forecast is not looking good with 100% chance of rain both of the next days.
The climb is short but quite tough. And the goal is a single tree on the highest point, not where we want to be if lightning starts.
The view however is magnificent all around and our friends point all the points of interest before we start running downwards to avoid the rain that starts slowly as we descend towards the car.
However the rain stops for a short while so we make one more stop to buy some apple cider from a self serve kiosk. It is an interesting experience and we have something to drink the next days. And then it is back to our friend’s house where we are going to spend the next couple nights. In the evening we watch movies and talk about this and that before it gets late and it is time to go to bed.
