After one last breakfast at the hotel we check out and leave the luggage in the storage room so we can explore Prague till the evening when we have our flight back to Bucharest. We start with a walk towards the Central Square, there were a few churches that we weren’t able to visit previously but might be open today.
As usual we try a slightly different path so we can enjoy a different collection of houses on the way. Most of them are quite beautiful and deserving more than the cursory look we are giving them.
We spend again some time in the Old Town Square, enjoying the great weather and the beautiful buildings surrounding the square. And then it is time to see if today we are lucky and the Church of Our Lady before Týn is open, it wasn’t last time when we tried.
This time we can enter and visit it, it is quite ornate as we expect a Catholic Church to be. We walk around to see it from both ends and as usual we explore also all the nooks that we can find.
There are some beautiful details throughout the church especially the wood and stone carvings, they are quite special, especially the wood altar.
Next is the St James Basilica, this one we cannot enter as they are celebrating Sunday Mass. However there is a small entryway for visitors and from there we can see the famous mummified hand. Legend says it is a thief’s arm cut after he tried to steal from the church and was caught by a statue come to life and suspended to scare all other future thieves.
From here we start making our way towards Wenceslas Square passing other magnificent buildings almost at every intersection along the way.
We really like the animal motive on the buildings. Besides the Two Cats restaurant the day before we find a two bear house and a multiple swan house, both looking quite cool.
As we really liked the garnet store the previous day we enter a few more jewelry stores along the way and buy a few more items, as the price/quality ratio is quite good. And then we reach Wenceslas Square which we will follow, on foot, to the National Museum at the other side of the square.
