We really want to go somewhere, anywhere during this period of relentless heat in Phoenix. But even at our usual altitudes where we spend the summer, 7,000-8,000 ft, it is too hot almost every weekend. In desperation we eye one of the highest mountains in Arizona, Mt Graham, maybe that is the place to go? And it is a plan, soon the AirBnB is booked, a longer weekend is announced at work and on we go. The trip is beautiful with a great day at high altitude followed by a surprisingly enjoyable one at lower altitudes exploring Gila Box Riparian National Conservation Area for the first time.
