Lempa Prehistoric Village and around it

The first attraction for the day is Lempa Prehistoric Village which is relatively close. But on the way we stop at an interesting road side location to find a few caches. Here we find the first of quite a few interesting and common places in Cyprus which seem to be purpose built for weddings. This one has stairs down to a waterfall location which we explore to see if we can find any interesting birds.

The bridge is where we assume the wedding photos were taken but now it looks a bit…dangerous. Still next to it we find our first new bird, a beautiful European Greenfinch.

Nearby is a very interesting exhibit, it seems it is part of a university with many outdoor creations that are quite beautiful and colorful.

Lempa Prehistoric Village is about five minutes away and it sits on the Aphrodite Cultural Route, a route that links many major attractions in Southern Cyprus. It is not a large site but even from the parking lot we see the major attraction, a series of reconstructed buildings in the style of the people that lived here (or how they assumed the style was).

The reconstructed houses are all round, likely it was easier to built that way? With very few visitors they have been taken over by lizards and birds that nest in the cracks especially in the roof.

There is also an area that is not reconstructed where you can see the shape of the houses but we are attracted by the one reconstructed house that can be entered and wonder if it is also reconstructed inside.

It is reconstructed and quite interesting we really wonder if the pattern on the walls are inspired by something actual or just fancyful imagination? Still it looks quite beautiful and with a few additional amenities would be a nice place to stay even now.

There are also a lot of birds and lizards around us, while the birds are common ones the lizards are quite special as some are endemic and some can be found only in the southern European countries. And here we also find the first physical cache in Cyprus, it is an easy find and then we are on our way.

Next we stop at a bakery nearby to buy some food for the day and then visit a nearby city, Kissonerga, with a boat exhibit and an old typical well from the area that was used before running water was introduced.

There is one more stop in Kissonerga, in the central area. Here we find a few more adventure lab locations including near the historical church and an EOKA monument that we find out celebrates the first British soldier killed during the uprising?! Gruesome.
