Huge and abandoned Kolga Mõis mansion

After the short stop at Jägala waterfall we continue east, we have one more stop planned today. We follow the major highway for some time, that ultimately leads to Russia, and then follow small country roads to reach our last goal for the day, Kolga Mõis.

Kolga Mõis (Manor) belonged to the Cistercian Order starting with 1230. In 1581, King John III of Sweden gave Kolga and the land around it to the famous Swedish general Pontus De la Gardie. It was rebuilt in the 1820s as a stylish Classicist palace, its current appearance. It is also not that well maintained or signposted so we have trouble finding it and then even finding a parking spot.

We then try to find the entrance but it seems that the museum section is already closed and the only thing open is a gallery that allows us to enter through the main entrance to see how it looks inside.

We now continue walking around the grounds enjoying the views of the main manor building and other buildings on the grounds.

The view of the main manor house is especially beautiful from the other side of the lawn, it is the only place where you can capture the manor fully in a photograph as it is quite large.

There are quite a few buildings that are in disrepair and we explore the area as much as we can before leaving towards our AirBnB.
