This extended weekend we decide to explore the Dragoon Mountains and Cochise Stronghold, we are not sure how hot it will be but it is an area we never visited before. For our base we choose an AirBnB that is relatively close by and then we find out it is a quasi religious retreat with religious courses and so on. However as it is the only available accomodation for miles we decide to still go and see how it goes. And we do not see anyone during the stay and the cabin is quite cute also so no concerns really in the end.

Inside it is clean and even though it is a bit old everything is serviceable and clean. We especially like the balcony where we can eat our takeout from Tucson and enjoy the views.

In the evening we do some moth-ing trying to see what moths are in the area. There are relatively few interesting ones but those that are interesting are quite interesting so we enjoy our evening outside.

As we exit during the days to visit different attractions we have time to explore the compound, it is quite large and even has a swimming pool, unfortunately dry.

The access road is quite primitive but well maintained with a bonus of rabbits on most days.

In the evening we set our trail camera outside the cabin and besides the ubiquitous rabbits also capture a fox, not really unexpected.

There are also lots of birds to see during these explorations, the Western Tanagers are colorful and beautiful and the Jay are loud and inquisitive.

In the evening we sometimes walk on the roads through the property to look at the other, empty, cabins and to find rabbits and sometimes even deer. The species here is the local subspecies of White-tailed Deer, the Coues’s White-tailed Deer, always fun to see them.

We also buy provisions in town while expolring the area, it is surprisingly well stocked with local wines so we buy a few besides a few souvenirs. Food wise there isn’t a lot so we eay some MREs we brought from home in the evening when not eating takeout. Overall we really enjoy our stay and the solitude in the compound during our stay as we explore the surrounding area.
