After our last Finnish hotel breakfast, we have no more paid ones going forward, we take a short walk through downtown Kuopio. Dock area is quiet so early in the morning and it has a nice view of the lakes but unfortunately we cannot spot any of the extremely rare freshwater seals, Saimaa Ringed Seals, rumored to live somewhere in the multitude of connected lakes.
After the docks we walk to the central Kuopio cathedral with an imposing exterior, the interior however is really austere but at least it can be visited.
There are some great views of the docks from the cathedral and we explore a bit more around before moving on to our next goal, the open market.
We pass the kauppatori open market area that is completely under construction to arrive at our goal, a small row of preserved wooden houses called Pikku Pietarin. We check a few of the craft stores but then we have to hurry back to the hotel as the check out is earlier at 11AM this time and then we are again on our way south.
