We always like when possible to camp on the Mogollon Rim on a weekend trip but it is rare to be able to do so. This weekend we have enough time so on we go arriving relatively late to the Rim area. We spend a bit on the RIm proper finding caches and enjoying the great views, it is a great day to spend exploring.
As the evening sets we even find a Spotted Towhee happily singing nearby, it is not a rare bird here but fun to see. And then it is time to find a camping spot which we do further away from the Rim, everything near the Rim is occupied.
After a great night sleep it is time to continue our exploration of the area but first we have to get back into the middle of it all.
Back at the Rim we find a few more caches and continue enjoying the great views, they are beautiful especially along the canyons leading out from the Rim.
Then it is time to explore the inland again, forest roads large and small on foot and via car finding caches left and right.
Next we are exploring some human habitations including the Buck Springs Cabin used by fire guards for some time, and maybe also used more recently we are not sure.
There are also a lot of creeks and we really enjoy walking along them and see what wildlife we can find, sometimes they are large and sometimes they are smaller.
In this case they are smaller, mostly butterflies and even wood eating insects, no elk or deer today.
We find one more abandoned cabin in the woods, we really enjoy these abandoned structures. And then some strawberries nearby, really cool.
We end the day find a cache in a beautiful canyon which is however quite difficult to traverse. Luckily we are able to make it to the cache and then enjoy some snacks in the beautiful landscape before returning to Phoenix.
