Kongresshalle a relic from the past

One part of history that likely Nuremberg isn’t proud off is its Nazi history. Some part is well known, the trials at the end of the war for Nazi leaders were held here as the name Nuremberg trials suggest. Some are lesser known known like the Nazi Rally Grounds and the Congress Hall. We start exploring these relics with the courtroom where the trials were held before stopping for lunch and then continuing to the Congress Hall and surrounding structures.

The Congress Hall is the largest remaining Nazi governmental structure and now houses a museum, the Document Center Museum. We visit it before moving on in exploring the rest of the area.

The Congress Hall was never finished but was supposed to accomodate more than 50,000 people making it twice as big as the Colosseum in Rome. Work on it broke off after the start of World War 2 and was never finished.

Here is also the Zepellin field the place where the Nazi rallies took place from 1933 onwards. This was due to Nuremberg being a center of power for the Nazis and also located relatively central in the German Reich. We explore for a while but then it is time to leave as we still want to explore the castle today before returning to Munchen.
