Climbing on Bill Williams using Bixler Saddle Trail

Today is the last outing together for a while as one of us will go to see relatives and friends in Romania and Nurnberg and one of us will remain in Phoenix due to lack of vacation time. As such we want to have a memorable trip and skip on our first choice, Sandy’s Canyon Trail as it is too busy.

We pick our second option, Bixler Saddle Trail, no one is around and there is also a rarely found cache higher up that we plan to find. We park before the trailhead proper and start walking up to avoid getting stuck as we do not know enough about the road. Which is quite good in the end.

But if we would have gone up via car we would have missed the turkeys that we catch wondering on the road ahead of us, sooo cool!

We finally arrive at the trailhead and from here we follow trails while finding Horned lizards along the way, quite a few interesting things to find today.

And up we go trying to reach the cache, with some nice views and rock formations on the trail. No one else is using the trail which is fine for us.

We soon arrive near the cache and after a short search find it, eat some snack, enjoy the view and then start descending.

We explore a bit the area afterwards and find multiple herds of elk and some mule deer before returning to Phoenix. Overall it was a memorable trip as we desired, something that we will remember for quite some time!
