While our goal today are the Bushnell Tanks we still want to stop along the way to find a few caches. We choose an area around Four Peaks close to US87 and start exploring and finding caches.
We especially like the wildflowers that are everywhere. They are mostly yellow but there are also a few purple ones and overall it is quite a beautiful show and we enjoy the walk and the caches.
And then it is time to go to the Bushnell Tanks. We park in the relatively full parking and then start our walk on a road that we are surprised is closed for all traffic because it is quite passable. We soon learn why as the road suddenly goes bad with the creek crossing it. On foot it is quite fun to cross it and we also encounter a large group of campers heading out, likely the cause of all the cars at the trailhead.
As we continue on the two mile hike to the tanks we encounter also our first Mexican Poppies, the first signs of springs, or so they are to us at least.
And then we are at the end of the abandoned road where lots of tanks await us. There is a large water tank and a few smaller ones probably fed from the larger one when everything was still working.
In fact the large reservoir is in reasonably good shape at least from the outside however we are more interested in the cache nearby. It is actually a fun cache with a seemingly smoking skunk inside…or maybe it is staged?
We then return towards the car passing an interesting corral, it seems well maintained however given that the access road is closed we are not sure when it could be used. Or maybe they have the access key?
It is already sunset when we get close to the car. We really enjoy the views and walking on the road is easy with the creek being a nice bonus so we decide to return in the future here if at all possible to explore other side roads.
