We are not travelling far during New Year as plane tickets are expensive. Close by many places are not feasible as they might be too cold or have snow. In the end we settle to celebrate New Year in Palm Springs which should have similar weather pattern as Phoenix. It is a good choice, even though Palm Springs is in a heat wave there are enough wonderful places nearby like the Painted Canyon or the Pacific Crest Trail where we can hike without being killed by the heat.
