Arc de Triomphe to Eiffel Tower

On the last day of our France tour we intend to visit a few sites in Paris mostly separate from our relatives. This is because we have visited here before and they didn’t so they want to see at least a few more major tourists sites than us. But the start of the tour at least is similar as we want to walk from the Arc de Triomphe to the Eiffel Tower passing expensive stores and restaurants.

The Arc de Triomphe is quite popular, we were hoping that outside the summer tourist season there would be fewer people but it is not true really. Or there are lots and lots of people in summer, who knows? Either way it is still impressive, it was built to commemorate the deaths in the Revolutionary War and Napoleonic Wars.

Next we walk a short distance on the Champs Elysees, which while a nice boulevard it is really not super impressive to us especially in today’s heat.

One of the things we notice on Champs Elysees and around is that there are a lot of queues, queues for stores(?) queues for shows, queues for everything. We hope that at least where we are going are not queues (we are wrong unfortunately).

We then cross the Seine with a nice view of the Eiffel tower and then continue towards it on the other bank.

From close by the tower is impressive, as usual, we really enjoy the interplay of shadow and light depending on which side we are looking from.

We especially like the view from below, it is like looking up a mechanical monster. The queue to climb up is also monstruous so we decide to skip and move to the next attraction, the Catacombs of Paris.
