Our initial plan was to stop for a few hours in Monaco but it is too late and we are too famished. It is dark outside and most restaurants are closed for whatever reason and we know that our accomodation is up in the mountains with no chance of dinner so we have to find something prior. So we drive carefully on our way to Monaco and try to find both a parking spot and a place to eat…not easy.
Finally we find a pizzeria that is open and is relatively cheap and we emerge from it full and more energetic. We then drive through Monaco without stopping but try to hit at least the major attractions that we know about like the casino as we pass through the city before turning north towards the mountains.
The drive to the mountains is full of tunnels and switchbacks so we are happy when we arrive at the hotel just about half hour prior to their curfew. We fall asleep almost immediately as tomorrow we have a full day of alpine exploration planned.
