Eagle Sink and return to Phoenix

On our return to Phoenix we do not have a major stop planned but a few shorter ones to explore some side roads from US89 and find some caches. We start first near Kanab and then continue on east towards Page and Arizona.

One of the more special sights that we find as we follow the caches is Eagle Sink, an unexpected scenic spot relatively close to the main road. We would have said that nobody knows about it but there was a car close by but we never saw the driver, weird.

We explore a bit more the area around eagle sink and find a new construction further up the road. It seems like a water reservoir linked to a greenhouse…double weird.

Returning to the main road we continue stopping for brief periods, finding caches and enjoying the special views of the Vermillion Cliffs.

In fact the soil here is red almost everywhere we stop. It is beautiful but we would be scared to drive it during the rain as it becomes sticky clay exceedingly fast.

Instead of driving to Page we actually decide to take a “shortcut” to 89A. House Rock Rd is a dirt road but a well maintained one that we have driven before and we prefer to speeding along 89 through Page in most cases. It is a long drive and we pass into Arizona at about midpoint as we keep an eye for any wildlife.

We actually do not see any wildlife but we see some cows on the road. Close enough as they seem quite wild to us as they run with their calves next to the car.

The most special view on House Rock Road is the view of the Wave. We always wanted to go and visit it but until now we had no luck with the permits which can be almost impossible to get. Why there is a need for permits we will never know but it is what it is so we enjoy it from afar before the long drive through the Navajo Nation and then past Flagstaff and down to Phoenix and to our home.
