We have two night booked in Kanab at the Victorian Inn and after the long drive we are happy that the room is comfortable and we enjoy our time inside, even though the only thing we do inside is sleep as otherwise we are out exploring of course.

After a good night sleep we awake hungry in the morning and go to the dining area to get some breakfast. It is typical US breakfast fare but we are hungry and gulp down everything before starting our exploration of the area.

First we explore a bit near Kanab, there are quite a few interesting sights nearby and a lot of towering red cliffs to be impressed by.

But our main goal for today is the Lick Wash trail, a nine mile out-and-back hike to LeFevre Cabin, so we leave Kanab and its surrounding area and drive up Skutumpah Road to the trailhead and start on the trail. There is no one else around and it is a beautiful hike along the wash which soon narrows and becomes a canyon.

In fact quite soon it becomes an impressive slot canyon. While there is no technical difficulty it is a beautiful section and we really enjoy it.

There are many alcoves and grottos escavated by the water and we explore all of them for any signs of ancient ruins but with no luck.

There are a few named features along the way which we explore as they are quite interesting. An arch here, a hoodoo there, there is always something to see and explore.

After exiting the narrow section we arrive on No Man’s Mesa where we continue for another mile to LeFevre Cabin our planned turnaround point for the hike.

The cabin can be entered and is in much better shape than the ranch house we visited the previous day which is not saying a lot. Still you could arguably cook on the stove and even sleep inside even though we would have done it outside if needed.

It is spring and the high desert is full of flowers and we enjoy the multitude of colors along the trail.

On our return trip we even find a few petroglyphs that we knew about but didn’t think we would find. They are the typical Utah petroglyphs of “aliens” that we quite enjoy to find.

It is late afternoon when we return but the sun is still out so we enjoy the leisurely drive back stopping a few times to take photos along the road.

In the evening we go to the top restaurant in Kanab for a celebratory dinner. The food is very good and with both dinner and dessert we are very satiated when we go to sleep.
