Salmon River Short Loop Hike

After about an hour drive we leave the Bonavista Peninsula and soon enter the last attraction for the day Terra Nova National Park. We stop at the first parking area because we have to pay for the entrance. In fact we debate if we should still visit the park as we have only two hours of sunlight but when will we back again in Newfoundland? So we pay and decide the start with the Salmon River hike, a short loop starting right from the parking lot.

The trail is in a very good state and we enjoy the hike through the birch forest with the only negative being the loud car noises from the nearby Trans-Canada highway.

At least the animals and birds do not seem to be bothered by the noises, we see both Red Squirrels and lots of Palm Warbler as we continue along the trail.

The turnaround point for the hike is the Salmon River where we see a few more birds and then start back on the loop walking through the moss covered forest.

It is a beautiful hike and we even see a Pine Warbler on the way back so overall it is a nice stop and now we have one more stop planned for today about half an hour away.
