Short hike on Grand Bank Cape Trail

Today we are relocating for quite a distance, four hours drive, and we have quite a few stops planned along the way. The first one is actually quite close to Fortune where we want to hike the Grand Bank Cape Trail. We plan to hike only a portion of it, how much we will decide after we start depending on views, weather and so on. We find the parking with some difficulty and then start our hike on the shoreline on the large trail.

But before climbing on the cliffs with the trail we make our way to the impressive pebble beach. Impressive as in, it expands as far as our eyes can see both south and north. We look for any objects on the shore, nothing interesting and then decide to walk a bit along the shore before returning to the trail.

It is a good decision as something takes flight ahead of us and with some difficulty we find the bird, it is a Semipalmated Plover that really blends in among the stones.

We then return to the trail and go slowly up the cliffs. The trail is nice, the views are quite good, and the weather is also quite great all in all a great start of the day.

We look up and see a V formation and are excited, what ducks can they be? Nope, they are cormorants, how dare they fake us out? But maybe they are the rare two-headed cormorants we also see in the water :).

As we scan the waters we see fishing boats and then towards fortune a large boat. We focus on it and lo and behold it is the Saint Pierre ferry coming in at a later time today as they will do only one crossing.

And then it is time to return, we still have a lot to see and a significant distance to cover today but it was a nice start of the day.
